In the online world of business, where innovation and ideas are created and made obsolete faster than we can hope to keep up, the road can get rough. The path we walk usually starts off pretty dreary and gray, and it’s usually pretty difficult to take a straight shot down that road, no matter how sober we are. The thing about this “road” is the flowers off to the side are usually much more inviting than the road itself. They invite us to smell, and to distract ourselves, if just for a few minutes.
Those flowers are DEADLY!
If you stop to smell the flowers, even if you enjoy the sight for too long, you are systematically burying you business in the dirt. You won’t last long doing that. It may sound a little extreme, but it isn’t.
When you are caught up with the flowers (emails, texting, surfing the internet) you’re not only putting a stop to all of the progress you have made so far, you are now moving backwards!
How can that be possible?
Well, when you do those things that distract you from you real important tasks, you put those real 
important tasks on the back burner, and not only are they not getting done, but half the time, when you go back to them, you forget where you were at in the first place! You forget what you were writing about, and you lose all of the ideas and momentum you had in the first place. Working for yourself, online especially, is a game of momentum. You use it to your advantage and you abuse the life out of it.
Now, if you lose momentum and focus, that’s best case scenario. Worst case is that you never even get back to what you were doing at all!
Are you beginning to see how “smelling those flowers” will systematically put an end to your dreams and your business?
What is even worse is looking at those flowers can keep you from getting anything finished. So, what does that mean? How much time do you spend wastefully considering all of the activities you would rather be doing, instead of the stuff you should be doing?
That is looking at the flowers, and not remembering that there is a path ahead that you have to leave your mark upon.
