10 Things You Would Like About Kauai, Hawaii

Perhaps you are hankering for a sun-n-sand vacation. You might think of Hawaii, but you might have the mistaken notion that it’s too crowded.

If you like less-crowded vacation spots, you should definitely consider Kauai, Hawaii’s least-traveled large island. Here are 10 reasons why:

You and your kids may really enjoy simple snorkeling. Just put on mask or goggles at any beach and watch the colorful fish.

2. You can find great surf on Kauai and also tame wavelets. Those are on the sheltered south side.

3. You can kayak the rivers and ocean beaches, and you can zipline through the treetops in the rain forest, courtesy of island outfitters.

4. Kauai’s northwest coast, the Na Pali cliffs, will look familiar to you from movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park. You too can take a look at the amazing cliffs from a boat tour or from a helicopter tour. You could also take a sea kayak day-long adventure to see them up close.

5. Your frequent-flyer miles may be able to get you there.

6. Since it is a U.S. destination, U.S. liability laws apply for diving outfitters. So you are more likely to have a safe diving experience with safe equipment than in non-U.S. destinations.

7. Do you like crowds or dislike them? If you want to get away from crowds, Kauai is the place for you.

8. Endangered monk seals take naps on public beaches. Endangered sea turtles can be found in the waters out a little ways from the beach. Enjoy!

9. You get to learn about Niihau, the Forbidden Island, and see it from 17 miles away, low on the southwest horizon.

10. Worried about funding a vacation? Using U.S. currency at a U.S. tropical destination may be quite a benefit for you.

Kauai may be a good place for you to think about.
